Gene, a number of years ago you sent me a plant recommended as
deer-
resistant. Over the years, and with much trial and error, I
have developed
a pretty deer-resistant garden, and this plant has been one of the
main
background fillers, but I don't remember, and can't find, the name of
it.
I thought I had one of your old catalogs, but can't find that
either. I keep
being asked what the plant is, and am embarrassed not to be able to
identify it.
The plant is a perennial, about 18" to 2' tall. It has
heart-shaped alternate
leaves, about 2" across. a bit felted, and slightly greyish in
color. In the
spring it has small bright yellow flowers. It's not showy, but
makes a very
nice filler in the back of the bed. Can you tell me what it
is?
And while I am asking this let me tell you that a peony that you sent
me
in those early years - I think you said it was your own development -
has
after a slow start begun to bloom most handsomely. For the past
two
springs it has been the real star of the garden. I should have told
you this
before now. If it was your development, did you ever register it and
give
it a name? I may never reach another spring flower show, but it would
be
nice to be able to exhibit this one, and it wouldn't be accepted without a
name.
Thanks again,
Auralie
