italian food. this is venice [name ring a bell?]. half or more of the population claims some sort of italian ancestry. we have streets with names that start "via del...." we have a world class italian market. and we have a dozen or more italian restaurants--all but one of which are not fit to eat in. the food is terrible. i accused one of them once of serving me "chef boy-ar-dee."
the one exception is a small hole-in-the-wall that makes a pizza with a decent crust. they may also offer other things that are edible, but i've never tried them. i sure miss the italian restaurants of washington, baltimore, and sacramento.

One of my Ya-Ya pals and her husband went to Philly on business a month or so ago and I told her - eat good Italian food while you're there. They did. Every night. And she's been raving about it ever since she came back.
I told her no one can beat Texas for Tex-Mex, but for Italian food - go north and east, much as I hate to admit it!! :-)
