That seems to be a pretty expensive plant to sacrifice as a temporary center piece. But what do I know.
We all seem to be more inclined to internet shopping than mall combat. And so it comes as a shock to me to go, as I did yesterday, to Wal-Mart. A battle zone. Many times, I had to park the cart on the end of an aisle and worm my way through shoppers, squalling kids, carts, and stocking employees to find a box of raisins or bag of split peas. It was like those shopping frenzies that occur up north after storm warnings.

Speaking of plants in terra cotta...
I was in Lowes today and they had this cute little Sago Palm in a wide
shallow terra cotta pot. The pot was topped off with gravel and the whole
thing appeared to be GLUED in place. This is a live plant, but you could
turn the whole thing, gravel and all upside-down and it wouldn't budge.
Does this make sense?

I went to the store today (well sort of -Orchard Supply, not the mall)to
purchase the first present from a store rather than online. I've bought
almost everything online this year. Orchard had very nice spring bulb
kits(narcissus and such), some in terracotta pot, and others in copper pots.
Ireally liked the copper ones ($10) and it was just what I needed for my
husband's aunt. If my husband wasn't so averse to the smell, I would have
bought one for myself too!

Godi,
Glad you found the movies you were looking for. I know that for many,
perhaps most, people, hitting the stores and sharing Christmas cheer while
you're at it is just as much a part of the season as the giving of those
gifts. But personally, I've had been through too many Christmases of not
being able to find just what someone wanted. This year many of the items
myfamily wanted were CDs, DVDs, and video games. It's a drag to get to the
store and find the movie he wants in dvd, but only in regular format, not
widescreen. Or the video game he wants is only in stock for nintendo and
hehas Play Station 2. And she wants the latest Dido recording, but is 2002
themost recent? And no, not the 2000 version of Rocky & Bullwinkle, thenewerone.
Then there's the 40 pound 'portable' workbench. If Sears is willing to
offer it at the same price online with free shipping direct to your door,
why would I want to go to the maul and have to carry the 40-pounder half a
mile to the far reaches of the parking lot?
I find whatever possible online and then go to some stores for what must
bepurchased locally. Franks didn't have the Norfolk Island Pine I waslookingfor but they had a big clearance (75%off) on floating candles and half off
on baskets. My niece didn't ask for candles, but I know she loves them.
Ifilled a basket full of floaters of all kinds and even found a bowl tofloatthem in. Inexpensive enough so's I could add them to her CDs and DVDs
without busting a budget. So I had fun shopping without knocking myself
out trying to find elusive items.
I realize online shopping doesn't appeal to everyone, but it has served me
well and allows me to enjoy the season more.

Melody,
I ordered the movies at Amazon.com. Since we were discussing "throw away
society", I just wanted to add my two cents about how annoying it can be
not tofind parts or in this case videos at stores that are convenient to shop.
