Before adding the softener (mostly to save appliances and water heaters), I
added white vinegar to wash and rinse water...helped get rid of the soap,
etc. Also, found that vinegar spray cleans bathrooms well...especially the
fiberglass-type fixtures. Our water has a bit of iron...not as much as
yours sounds to be...I have also used Iron Out to clean up toilet fixtures.
