According to Howard Garrett, we don't have JB's here in Texas. This
thing was big - almost quarter size. JB's aren't that big are they?

I think those are the Japanese beetles Pam. Scarab beetles are usually
smaller than that I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

some interesting information regarding it from our extension agent, Bill
Wyatt
. It follows:

Bill,
This beetle, Euphoria sepulchralis (Fabricius) is in the  family
Scarabaeidae.  "The adults may be found on flowers and feign  death when
touched."  Beetles in this genus are often called bumble  flower beetles
because of their color, pubescence and they act like  bumblebees.  This
one 
does not have a common name but a closely related  species is called the
bumblebee flower beetle or brown fruit  chafer.
