Re: Brugmansia cuttngs

I suggest that the secret to keeping them in water, as Godi said, is keeping the water fresh--not only changing it regularly, but keeping it as chemical-free as possible.

Interesting that you can leave them in water.

Donna,
I also have some brug cuttings from Marge and they are rooting beautifully
and have developed small leaves. I wrote to Monika Gottschalk in German,
she's on the abads.org website as having hybridized tuns of brugs. I
wondered whether I should pot the cuttings in soil now or wait till
spring.
She said that she never pots her brugs in winter because of the short days
and the possibility of rotting. The cuttings will be fine in water, as
long
as it is changed once a week and the level kept at the upper roots and the
cuttings stand in bright light and not too warm.

The brugmansia cuttings, kindly supplied by Marge, rooted readily in
water; Squinty and I potted them up Xmas eve [which is why she's no
longer allowed on the potting bench]. It's been cool here since--nights
low 50s, days mid 60s--but they have really grown in the lathhouse
environment [damp, semi-shade]. All have sprouted adult-sized leaves,
raising the possibility that some of them may bloom before it's time to
set them out in spring.

Speaking of Spring, I'm ready. Had enough winter. Ready for the 75-85
degree days and short pants.
