Oh... and forgot to mention: the Euphorbia pseudocactus is loaded with pinhead-size flower buds, ready to burst into bloom at any moment. Also noticed just now that one of the sansavarias has put out a bloom spike. And some of the ground orchids have begun to bloom again.

Just the usual winter stuff here--hibiscus, begonias, petunias, purslane, xmas cactus, a couple of orchids, poinsettia, tomatoes, peppers, rosemary, yada, yada, yada. If one goes to a nursery, there will be marigolds, snapdragons, dianthus, impatiens, gerberas, and other bedding plants, including some inappropriate ones, like pansies.Weather has been mostly great so far this winter--highs still cruising between 69 and 81. The coldest, I believe, was one early AM dip to upper 40s.On 12/17/06, Gene Bush <genebush@otherside.com> wrote:I suppose everyone is having the crazy weather to some degree, Auralie. Becauseofthefiasco with the oil tank, followed by Chet's episode in the hospital, Ihad not beenable to find time to plant the bulbs - or place to put them. The groundwould have been frozen by now in a normal year, but we have had only one hardfreeze, followedby days of temperatures in the 30s-to-low 50s - not freezing, but rarelyout of the 40sand drab, windy, overcast, generally nasty weather. I find this kind ofweather is terribly depressing - my seasonal affective disorder really kicks in. Anyway, todayI finally got the last of the bulbs in, which wouldn't have worked in anormal year. I hope they don't suffer from the late start. But what was surprising was that everywhere I found bulbs already up. Daffodils were showing a couple of inches, and in one place tulips were several inches out of the ground. Added to that, my Confederate Jessamine (Gelsemium something-or-other) is in full bloom. I can remember one year in the late 70s whenforsythia was blooming in December, but this is crazy.
