Yes- I have had that happen. If yours is like mine was, then it is dead. Time for a new one.

Hum.... anyone ever have this happen? Ok, it is old and needs to be replaced, so guessing that is what I will 
do- but thinking of dragging one up from basement to make sure that is
the problem first. (like I have time for this right now- NOT)
