Our house is too small, too. Most of DH's trains are in storage, the living room is half filled with the rest. I've gotten used to living with plywood and sawhorses. :-/ At one time, we'd planned to put brackets, shelves and track just above door height, and make some pass-throughs between rooms, but that was when we were young and ambitious.

DH didn't concentrate on steam, but since Union Pacific was his major area of interest, in addition to his Dad's NYS&W, there's a lot of steam in there. His grandfather owned a feed and coal mill, and the tracks of course ran right past it, so the Susie-Q is a big part of the collection.

Ho Gauge Daryl
I have been working on a history of steam in America for quite a few years.
Get a different train set out each year to go under the tree. No place to
set up my trains as our house is too small. Will eventually just give it all
to my oldest son who thinks he is interested.

Hi Gene,

What gauge is your railroad? My husband's father bought his first train for him for his first Christmas in '48. O Scale . We've got a bit of G that we
had planned to use in the garden, but caring for aging parents put the
kibosh on that, and we're past the stage where we want to crawl around on
the ground anymore.

Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
Best of all that life can bring you in your gardens.
(my electric train under the tree... the one with all the new bubble
lights... definitely says great holidays little boy.)
