RE: the recent political discussion

Just for clarification, my private response to you was in no way intended to
gang up on Linda. She has had interesting, educational, and respected input
on a variety of topics for a long time, and yes, we will miss her should she
still choose to take a vacation from the list.

I still believe this list has evolved into a true community, and we are
richer for additions to our extended family, and poorer when we lose a
member (at least those who participate, I think we'd have a bit of
difficulty missing someone who had never posted <smile>). I also believe we
learn through the exchange of ideas, including and especially those that
differ from our own. Doesn't mean we drop our beliefs, just that an
open-minded discussion doesn't hurt.

I need not repeat what you said so nicely earlier regarding opinions and
exchange of ideas...

I appreciate all the "well put"s, but I also want to tell Linda how much
we appreciate her input. No one is ganging up against her opinion - we
respect it and her right to share it. I personally hope she stays with
us. Linda, you have a lot to share and we would be the poorer without
it. We can handle your rants if you can handle ours. Seems fair to me.

Very well put, Kitty - I was wondering myself where the fear and hate
came from... I did not find it in the original post. Thank you for this

In defense of the person who sent the mail suggesting where and why to
gas, I did not consider it junk email. Neither was it fueled by fear or
hate. I considered it to have come from a concerned person who wanted
support companies who conduct business in a manner she considers
appropriate and to stop handing over her hard-earned money to companies
whose business practices offend her.

For example, I chose years ago to stop flying Northwest Airlines (losing
abundance of frequent flier miles) because Northwest flies in their
holds virtually all the wild-caught primates from Africa to the US

We the little people often feel powerless, yet we want to do something
constructive. I can't stop research labs from experimenting on
I can't stop Ugandans from killing each other. I can't stop terrorists
from bombing us. And I can't stop Gail Norton and her cronies from
destroying the very land she is paid to protect. But I really would
to be able to do something about it, no matter how small.

I do not expect everyone to agree with my views and I respect everyone's
right to speak their mind. If I don't agree, I've got a delete key. I
don't want any of you, even the most thin-skinned, to feel offended. It
has never been my intention to hurt anyone on this list. But I also
that all of us would believe the same of each other. Still, if others'
opinions have proved too much for you to bear, go ahead and take a
and come back when you can. We will have truly missed you. We'll
you back. But be forewarned, we may still have opinions.
