Re: peppers/what's everyone ordering?

I fell in love with 'Bolivian Rainbow Peppers' when I saw them in Cantigny gardens outside Chicago. They were so ornamental - with the edible bonus! Got seeds, after a great deal of surfing from 'Pepper Joe's' in Timonium, MD. Then had to order the 'Fluorescent Purple Pepper' as well. Have always had excellent results from hot peppers here in z5b, but poor yields from sweet peppers, even when started from plants. Any ideas?

The Pepper Gal, which sells seeds of most capsicum in captivity, recommends soaking them in a weak salt petre solution before planting; says it improves germination rate and gives the seedling a jump start.

Only peppers I grow these days are Thai devils, bird peppers, and grove peppers. They're perennials here. The Thai devil is the oldest, maybe 5 years old and 6 feet tall. It produces 50 or more peppers a year--way more than I can use.

Pam, don't you have garden centers near that you can purchase plants from
avoiding shipping. Also, peppers are very easy to start from seed which I will
do but I will not start them till March.
I only order plant material that is not available locally due to the cost.
