Re: RE: Re: now sending plants to zone cold- Artemisias/Powis Castle

Hi Kitty

You can also request from the grower that if nobody is home that they leave a tag at your door and take the package back to the post office. I've done that a few times. You have to schlep to the p.o. but your plants aren't sitting on the cold pavement waiting for someone to notice.

I bought some Curcuma rhizomes from a company in Florida on eBay and
asked him to insulate them well. He said he would but that the USPS
assured him that Priority Mail is not left o freezing conditions in
transit. The biggest problem is the time it might sit in your mailbox. I
had the package sent to the Extension office so it would be delivered
inside. When I opened the box the rhizomes were snug as a bug in - - -
cotton Christmas tree skirting.

I had someone send me tropical waterplants in the dead
of winter to zone 5 cold here. She insulated the box
with stryofoam on all 4 sides. It worked!
