Cyndi,
I always say that wrong... it is by Santa Barbara. On one of the trips to see my sister she has taken me to Lotusland. That was very interesting but very different. I think unless you are into Xeric and very different plants you might not enjoy it. I think we went to the Botanic gardens too.... that was the trip where we went to Hearst Castle. I think sometimes what it is that I really like to see and most of the time the gardens that I love the most are smaller individuals home gardens. There is something there that you don't find in a public place. I still remember how much I loved a garden that was in that area... not sure if it was Monticito or Santa Barbara. It was an old house that you could take a tour through and look at the gardens or you could have a party there if you were a member. It was very interesting... one thing I can't forget is that it took 11 gardeners full time to keep it all going. My sister has 11 acres and has over 300 roses so I was overwhelmed at how was she going to keep all that going.
I am a little loopy... I just returned from my step fathers funeral in the Austin TX area...drove 848 miles in 2 days. I am hoping that today I can get those roses planted that I bought last weekend.
Thank you all for all the neat ideas on this trip to Calif.
Tricia

Near Santa Monica? I was thinking it was the Montecito near Santa Barbara. I
sent an email out last week - which I never saw show up here - on some
interesting places near Santa Barbara. You might still like to give them a
look; the botanic garden in Santa Barbara should be pretty nice in April:

And then there's Lotusland, which I've heard about but never seen:
http://www.lotusland.org/ .
I hope you are planning on taking more than one day to drive down. The coast
drive in particular is gorgeous. You will of course be checking out the road
conditions beforehand...by April things should have calmed down somewhat but
we are getting slammed hard by rainstorms now, and there's no telling if
everything will be open.

David,
My sister lives around Santa Monica. I want to spend some time around San
Francisco and if time permits I would love to see the Redwood Forest. I want
to see and do it all but I know that isn't possible. I will look up
the Golden Gate park and Fioli.
thank you,
Tricia

Hi Tricia Uh, where's Monticito? Is that a part of Sacramento? Anyway, if you come west from Sac. then I can suggest a really great Hibiscus nursery... : ). Just kidding. Theresa may know of more areas in the Sac. area however if you are coming down more toward the Bay Area then I can give you some really nice gardens. Golden Gate Park has a few and then there is Filoli which is down the penninsula a little bit. That is really a treat. If you do come this way let me know and if you'd like to see the hibs you are welcome anytime. We will fly in and out of Sacramento. We will rent a card so that we can drive to my sisters place in Monticito. I was hoping some of you could recommend some great gardening things to see and do while we are there. This is a trip for our 20th anniversary. Thank you in advance for any help!
