Good grief-  I'm so glad I ripped all the ivy out of the back of my yard 
the first year I moved here.  It had totally engulfed the fence and 
critters were clearly living in it.  So, I ripped, dug and round-up'd it 
to death.  I do occassionally find a little shoot coming up in that 
area, but only about once per season and promptly yank it out.  It was a 
nasty job to get it out- but I'm sooooo glad I did it when I did.
