I've been to Cozumel twice, spent most of my time in the shops. If your ship has a shopping lecture, go to that. We got some free coupons and could buy a book with free stuff and discounts in the ports we visited. I bought some nice amethyst & mum in law got a nice emerald at Rachat & Romero and had them set while we went to lunch. Very helpful staff and once you chose a helper, no one was in your face pushing the merchandise. I told her my price range and we ended up with nicer stones than I expected. The second time, we went to the beach in the morning. We found out where there was a clean public beach near the port and caught a cab. We had fun looking at persian rugs too, didn't buy. Cafes and restaurants are mostly clean and safe in the tourist areas.
