Re: transporting blooming orchids

Gotcha-I just looked at them again and they are for your pockets or under socks, so I suspect I'll need quite a few. I'm going to try and have all the orchids in two large boxes, covered so the warmth will hopefully stay in.

I think I'd play it by ear. Are those hand warmers the kind you heat up in a microwave? If so, about dawn I'd be looking for a truck stop with a microwave to rejuvenate them. Remember, the coldest part of most days is between, say, 4 AM and 6 AM.

Are you going to drive straight through? If not, you may want to be able to take them into the motel with you.

If yes, you may not be in the cold long enough to worry about--depending, of course, on your route. It's predicted to be in the 70-80s for the foreseeable future here. I assume this balminess extends a few miles north of Disney World.

OK, I'm trying to come up with an idea on how to get my blooming orchids back
to SC without destroying the blooms. They're going to have to go in the
trailer (Uhaul) and I was thinking of boxing them carefully, adding plant
heaters and covering the boxes with cloth. I can't take them in the front with
me, and honestly last time they didn't like that anyway. My Vanda lost all of
its blooms that time. Too much wind with the windows open.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
