Not if you have a small plot. Deer will not jump into a place they think they cannot get out of. My vegetable garden - 17x8 feet - has a 4 ft fence around it. Have never had deer damage there, even though the perennial beds next to it have had definite predation, and there is a definite deer path through the back of my yard.

I want to plant lots of rosemary and lavender. Theytalked about split leaf philodendron being a great plant for here that the deer dont bother. We have a lot of live oak trees so there is moreshade and partial shade. I have 3 hibiscus and a meyer lemon tree that Ihave in pots. I have to roll them in and out of the garage right now.Even if I leave them on the back porch the deer will get brave enough to come defoliate them every once in a while. I really need to give them tosomeone that has a fenced in area. SuzanneLabry is my step sister and never brags ( or tells me when she has written an article) but they are all great. Now that we live in Rockport, Tx we have so many deer that I am not sure how much gardening I am going to be able to do. The previous owner toldme that they had the yard professionally landscaped 2 times and bothtimes the deer ate everything. I went to talk at the Extension centeryesterday and the Master Gardners here are very good at getting goodinformation out about how to plant things the deer won t eat, but withthe drought they still might eat it. So much to learn and plants to find.
