Ah, Pam, I love calamari, prefer the deep fried kind but have also had it
served in a red sauce of some kind. Wonderful. Two related stories:
Back in high school I dated a guy who was half Irish, half Japanese. His
mother, though here many years, kept her house as closely as possible to
that of her homeland. I remember him telling me how he and his brother
used to drive her nuts by sticking the squid to the table.
And:
A friend of mine in another state adopted two little Asian boys. She made
a valiant effort to steer them away from McDonalds. The one time I
visited, I happened to be there on the 5 year old's birthday. They always
took the B-boy to the restaurant of his choice and this little one had
picked Olive Garden. He ordered his favorite food, calamari. I was amazed!
