Hey Thresa,

Today (Sunday 4 Jan) on "Gardening by the Yard", they had a segment on
walkable ground covers, maybe something like that would work for you.  Rich
in Z-5 where it was 65 degrees yesterday, and 6 inches of snow falling right
now.
