RE: stone wall/clematis

Hi Noreen- I have tried a Clematis texensis in the past- killed it. I
think I've resigned myself to simply not have clematis. When I run out of
other vining flowers to try, I might go back and try again- but until then,
I try something I haven't killed repeatedly.

Have you tried any of the varieties of Clematis texensis??? It is a native
to Texas, grows all the way down to the south. I have one variety that is
growing next to a sidewalk, no protection of the roots, and it does
wonderful!!!!
The blooms on the varieties are much larger than the native and quite showy.
Of course it is nothing like the wide open blooms of the C. jackmannii
(sp?)
or such which do not grow here, but quite nice also.

Clematis- I wish! I have horrible luck with clematis- I'v killed a half
dozen- and the heat from the side walk and street would toast the roots.
