Chris, I've found that some arboretums/botanic gardens will give or sell prunings from their collections. Many of those that will not, have "friends of" groups that regularly root those prunings and sell them at annual fundraisers or through on-site gift and plant stores. It never hurts to ask.

Rich, On that note, are you aware of any sources for Syringa wolfii? Ever since I saw one at the Morton Arboretum (tucked way back in their Korean plant collection in the middle of nowhere) I've lusted after one.
