It's been 20+ years since I visited. We drove,too. I loved the panoramic views of the gardens. Plan for time (hours) to walk around. You'll love it. We were there in the spring and it was quite chilly. Dress in layers. As I recall it gets cool at night, even when the days are warm. It's in that rain forest climate, but still north, so cool and humid.
