It doesn't help that some folks don't know how to drive on ice. I was visiting my mom in Portland OR & had to catch a plane back to school after an ice storm in the early 1970s. Kind of a white-knuckle drive, even with all precautions & chains on the tires. Thought they were going to cancel my flight, but the clouds lifted just long enough for my plane to take off, then they were socked in for most of the day.
