RE: back to gardening.....

I never seem to be able to do containers well. No artistic instinct
maybe. I tend to stick in one or two plants that I know are pretty
tough, just so I can have some foliage on the patio. My dogs tend to rip
things out of the pots at random intervals too, so I try not to invest
much into them. Pelargoniums, ferns, a bay tree, impatiens, ornamental
grass is what I have in the pots in the greenhouse. In spring I'll head
out to the big box store and buy some six-packs of things I think might
grow for the empty pots.
I had good luck one year with nasturtiums from seed, those were pretty.
Purple basil looked nice, and I had houttuynia (sp?) for a while, it was
pretty until the dogs demolished that pot. And I liked the variegated
abutilon too, but last summer's heat wave killed it - I have a six-inch
tall cutting in the greenhouse, struggling to live.

Subject: [CHAT] back to gardening.....

Although the word annual is hard to use since we live in so many
different climates..... and I have never been fond of the words -tender
perennial- since in my opinion... either it is hardy here or I have to
'annually' replace it.
:)

I have been browsing the internet, catalogs etc... looking for some
seeds to start rather than purchasing small plants too early otherwise
anything
interesting is sold out. It really is amazing how many annual for me
plants
there are out there.

Wondering what you folks have grown and liked in containers etc....or
something you are planning on growing this coming season..... maybe that
will give me a starting point.
