The orange jasmine--Murraya paniculata--that I thought I probably killed with a water-softener salt spill seems to have survived. As soon as I realized what the spill was doing in the jasmine, I turned the hose on it for 4 or 5 days to flush the salt out. That seems to have worked. The tree is not back to pre-salt normal, but it has new growth all over and should be back to pre-salt normal in a month or 2. Whew! Would have been a horrendous job to dig it out and replace it.
