Re: Tree Ferns

My old copy of "Plant Finder" [Sep 2002] lists one wholesale grower in Florida: Excelsa Gardens in Loxahatchee [tel 561-790-3789; fax 561-790-3197], 3 gallon size only, $9.50; they call it "Tasmanian Tree Fern." Loxahatchee is near West Palm Beach.

I do love a good tree fern. ;-) They actually do quite well here. I did have one before that succumbed to scale. So far this one has done fine. It grew from a 1 gallon pot last spring with one frond (another rescue from the Garden Gate) to a three gallon and will definitely need to be moved to a 5 gal this spring. A friend has one in a pot under her live oaks and it has been fine for several years.

OK, now for the question. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a New Zealand Tree Fern? Latin is Dicksonia antarctica I think. I've googled and only seen descriptions. None for sale. I really want one of those and they are supposed to be the most hardy.
