Sorry pal, they're out of stock, as is Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill. The only place that has it is Big Dipper Farm, which has a $25.00 minimum order, and charges at least $15 to mail to SC. They're in Washington State. Their Dicksonia is only $6.00. Anyone going to Washington anytime soon? LOL! If Niche Gardens won't have them available I'll order from Big Dipper. I do love a good tree fern. ;-) They actually do quite well here. I did have one before that succumbed to scale. So far this one has done fine. It grew from a 1 gallon pot last spring with one frond (another rescue from the Garden Gate) to a three gallon and will definitely need to be moved to a 5 gal this spring. A friend has one in a pot under her live oaks and it has been fine for several years.
OK, now for the question. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a New Zealand Tree Fern? Latin is Dicksonia antarctica I think. I've googled and only seen descriptions. None for sale. I really want one of those and they are supposed to be the most hardy.

I have (hopefully still do) an Australian tree fern- and we certainly don't have humidity here. But it is planted under the big ash tree in the front yard and has done very well...up until the big freeze here a couple of weeks ago. Over the weekend I went out and cut back the frozen/mushy parts on that fern and a bunch of other plants- so we'll just see what comes back in spring. I noticed the "mexican heathers" are all brown and crispy- so not too optimistic about them either. On a positive note- they did come and put the final coat of stucco on our house today!! Yeah. I didn't get home until after dark- so I'm looking forward to checking it out in the morning.

Brrr-I'm chilly for you.  It's supposed to be 54 here and we might
actually get some rain!! It's been very dry this January. I spent all day in the garage today, cleaning, ripping out a crappy old cabinet (can we say euwwww- disgusting). Apparently that is where the mice had been living last winter- even found a petrified mouse carcass- yuck! Anyway, got all of that out- now to figure out how to get it to the dump! Got another shelving unit, and at least got stuff stacked on shelves, but the whole thing needs to be organized. But still.... visible progress!! I have to do a little more tomorrow no matter what, so that we can get the other car in the garage- but after that I think I'm going to leave this project for a week or two, and come back to it then. I'm rather sick of spending my weekends in the garage....even if it is cleaner now.

Here we
go again.  At 4:00 it was beautiful - 63 degrees - gardening in
shirtsleeves!
By 5:30 it was down to the lower 40's and the North wind is still
howling.
Thank goodness I got most everything done today before it hit.
Finally got the last of that flat of purple rain pansies, snapdragons 
and irises planted by then.  Then I had to bring all the pots of
tender stuff in again.  Ugh.
But I dearly love my colorful ornamental peppers (Aurora & Nosegay) and my walking iris so they're worth the trouble. Also got my Vera Jameson sedum relocated out to the new xeriscape bed (was my pepper bed - a real water hog) and watered in just in time. Hope Oklahoma 
doesn't get blasted again like the last time.  *sigh*
