Re: The Big Chill
I may be calling on you for help.
Whoa! I'd be glad to help but I took those courses over 10 yrs ago and they
were not of the same calibre as your Masters classes. I didn't intend to
make myself sound impressive, just wanted to lend support. Still, what I
said is basically true, and I know you will do fine, and I would be gald to
help any time I can.

Thanks Kitty! I may be calling on you for help. I'm hoping the pesticides
class is lots of memorization and knowledge of what kills what rather than
calculations. I am very interested in both of the subjects so I'm hoping
that makes a big difference. The text books should be here early next
week.

Andrea,
I know that your Pesticides & Soil Physics classes will be far different
than mine were but as the subject matter will be the same, I can
contribute a little here. I thought Soils would be difficult and when I
got my materials for the class it scared me because I've always thought I
was a mess when it came to any science class. However, I found it so
VERY interesting becuase it was a science that I could really apply, one
that made me really want to KNOW it. I had to work at it, but suddenly
physics and chemistry made sense, at least in this venue. It was
exciting! Pesticides, on the other hand, was a shorter course and just
seemed to be memorization for the most part.
You will do fine.

Thanks for all the cheering on-I'm quite honestly frightened half to
death of these two classes as I'm convinced they'll be nothing but
equations and calculations which I find very difficult. But, I keep
giving myself pep talks about how I'll get through it! LOL! Froze again
last night. I have so much stuff that is just black. Most of it will
come back but I'm a bit concerned about a couple of things.
Interestingly enough, my fishtail palm seems totally unaffected. It was
too big to bring in the house so I wrapped the base of it tightly in a
blanket. The leaves look fine! I knew it could take fairly cold temps
but had no idea it would brave below 28 degrees. YAY!

Give yourself and your plants a chance. You'll be fine, and a bunch of
them will be, too. People and plants are surprising.

Well, it's finally done it. All my stuff has frozen and keeled over.
It's been
below 28 the past two nights and will be again tonight, then it's
supposed to
be 70 on Sunday. I guess I'll use that day to cut everything back. I
start my
LAST semester in grad school on Wednesday so I need all positive
thoughts
turned in my directions. I have to take Pesticides, Soil Physics, AND
study
for my oral defense in March. Yipes. I'm terrified. So, there ya are,
That is
my life for the next 5 months. Hope you are all well! Jim-that stinks
about
the Hong Kong Orchid tree................:-(
