Actually, I suppose the Lamium would behave better with the tree gone; it always creeps toward more sun and ends up in the lawn. However, When it gets to the sun, it burns, which isn't pretty.

Kitty-just as an FYI-Lamium does OK here in the sun for most of the season until maybe August, then it kind of poops til it cools off. So, it may be OK and grow in more directions than you thought it would. I concur that removing the cherry before everything leafs out would be the best solution.A----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net>To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2008 9:08 PM Subject: [CHAT] what to do?I've got too much shade and I'm thinking of removing a Yoshino Cherry that Iplanted too close to the house. This would, of course, ruin the Lamiumgroundcover, but I can move that to another spot. What I'm really concernedabout is a Japanese Maple 'Orangeola' that's planted under it. It wouldstill have shady protection from a nearby Norway maple and redbud, but...A couple of years ago I had a Viburnum that wasn't performing well due totoo much shade, so I moved it. When I did, the Syringa 'Jessie' next to itdied. Nothing to do with roots; it seemed as though taking out the vibechanged its exposure, protection. Fortunately I had taken 2 cuttings fromthe lilac before moving the vibe, and one little one is doing well.I can't take cuttings of Orangeola, they aren't successful and, besides, it has taken years for it to get to this substantial size. I am worried that removing the cherry would alter the conditions and the precious maple wouldcroak. In the other example, the vibe survived. I moved it in fall. Doyou think it was the timing? Would 'O' stand a better chance if the cherrycomes out in spring? Was it all coincidence? Am I stewing over nothing?
