Good on you for going back to school David. Will your son be in Charleston or Beaufort? There's the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston and then of course the Air Station where I work in Beaufort. Remind him that he gets $4500 per year to go to school on............tell him to call me. I counsel Marines and Sailors all the time on their education benefits.

Here in Ca. you get teaching credentials. I could use the m.a. but I
kind of wanted to go through the program first. Call me chicken.


Jason is going into nuclear engineering so he'll be stationed on an
aircraft carrier. Pretty safe place comparatively. Besides he's going to
spending the next 18 months in S.Carolina. But yes, we'll always be
worried about him.

Hey guys

I tried to send this off a couple of days ago but it came back as
undeliverable. As you can tell my computer savvy is just as acute as
always.


Anyway, I wanted to thank all of you for the warm welcome back. I see
that senses of humor have not changed and memories are long (candlestick
maker indeed). By the way, this candlestick maker is going back to
Sonoma State to finally finish my teaching credentials so I can get my
hands on your children and your children's children. I can't wait. I
have about a year to go.


My son is now in bootcamp for the Navy so we're experiencing a bit of
empty nest syndrome but we've started to break out and we're counting
all of the pennies we're now saving. It's amazing. In cereal alone I
think we're saving hundreds of dollars a month.

I have 3 heat mats but I rarely use them for seed starting because I use
the
APS units.  I do use them though for getting my dahlias and other tender
bulbs a head start in the house and to stimulate late-starting perennials
that we receive wholesale in the spring like Asclepias.

In my "Oklahoma Gardener" magazine there is an article in there about
buidling your own "Mini Greenhouse". You build a stand out of PVC pipes 
for your florescent light to hang on (check - I already have all of
that) but here is something I never considered - and should have! Every 
Christmas I stock up on those tiny clear Christmas lights (100 count)
because I use them on the patio in the summer and make "jars of stars"
with them (I bunch them up in crystal vases and have them around the
house - really pretty). BUT - it showed a picture using 2 aluminum pans 
in plastic 28 qt. containers with lids. You put the lid upside down,
put
the light string on it, sit the plastic container on top of the lights, 
then put your aluminum pans (like you cook with - the cheap throw away
kind) inside the plastic bins and place it under your grow light. The
Christmas lights give a low heat which helps germinate. HOW COOL! If
any
of you want to see the pictures I can scan it and send it

to you in a PDF format.
