Oh yeah been to the tar pits several times. I haven't been through the big museum next door in a very very long time though. Seems like when we want culture we head for Huntington Gardens or the Getty. The Natural History Museum is in Exposition Park, near the Coliseum, and I probably haven't been there since grade school. Sheesh! Funny how I've lived in or near L.A. all my life and I've never been some of its cool places. I've been to London more times than I've visited Olvera Street. Ah well can't do everything...and the more time travelling around the less time in the garden. There are also a couple of museums next door to it. Lot's to see in that location. Another note of interest. Brea means tar. The name comes from Rancho La Brea, a land grant given by Mexico when this area was still a part of it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cyndi D Civ USAF AFMC 95 CS/SCOSI Johnson" <cyndi.johnson@edwards.af.mil> To: gardenchat@hort.net Sent: Monday, January 4, 2010 5:43:31 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: RE: [CHAT] winter weather The folks in the gift shop mentioned it! The museum actually has more "working" western heritage displays than entertainment, but we did like the movie cowboy exhibitions. Especially the fancy saddles. They had gallery exhibitions of native American basketry, photos of the Grand Canyon (breathtaking), and then their permanent exhibitions of western gear and art. I have meant to go there for years and finally got around to it. Next year maybe I'll get to the LA Farmer's Market.
