Cathy, I've used the glucosamine-chondroitin stuff, but couldn't really tell that it made much difference. I did give it to my arthritic old cat, and it seemed to help her. Don't laugh at me, but get your DH a copper bracelet. On our honeymoon we had an automobile accident. I was sitting crosslegged - nobody had seat belts in those days - and slammed both knees into the dashboard. They were x-rayed and said not to be broken, but the doctor who examined them said I was sure to have arthritis in the future. Sure enough, in a few years I was barely hobbling. Also had arthritis in my neck and shoulder. Someone gave me a copper bracelet, and I have worn one (actually, two - one on each arm) ever since. The change was slow, not dramatic, but very definite. I won't claim I have no pains in my knees, but that's usually because of a recurrent flare-up of my long-term Lyme disease, and when I can get a doctor to give me doxycycline it usually clears up in a few weeks. Some doctors see my bracelets and poke fun at them, but others look at my hands, which aren't gnarled, and say if it works, don't knock it. For an old lady with disk problems in her back and long-term Lyme, I trot along pretty well. Give the copper bracelet a try - at least they are much cheaper than any other remedy. Was so glad that the roads were ok in my neck of the woods. The doors of the car were iced shut, but once they were open we drove the two hours home without incident. Missed my hibiscus bloom, but came home to flowers on 5 orchids! Has anyone tried that glucosamine-chondroitin stuff for arthritis? DH's right knee is really bothering him. It didn't respond to steroid injection, and the synvisc (?sp) injection isn't providing much relief either. He would like to postpone the inevitable knee replacement as long as possible.
