Never heard of a hummingbird bee, but we have hummingbird moths here. I see them frequently in the garden. They are clearwing moths, day feeders, cousins to the sphinx moths, but their larvae do not share the sphinx larvae's predilection for tomatoes! (tomato hornworm)

I was touring the Display Gardens last evening around 7:30 and a friend
pointed out something I'd never seen or even heard of before: a hummingbird
bee. Have you ever seen one? Sort of bigger than a bee, smaller than a
hummingbird. Wings and proboscis like a hummingbird, but also a fine set of
antennae. Body was brownish to charcoal, appeared kind of furry maybe?
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was fascinating!
