I can't abide Funniest Home Videos. The few times I've caught parts of it
while changing channels, someone is always being hurt either physically or
emotionally and the audience is responding to this as being funny. This
type of thing also conditions children to believe such actions are funny. I
realize there are some cute videos (when it first started they had a cat on
a home railroad, attacking trains by sticking its paw between the trees
while they played Godzilla music in the background) but it seems they are
fewer and farther between these days and in order to win the prize, someone
has to get hurt. I can't watch that while waiting for something cute (and
you'll wait a lot, lot longer for something intelligent).
We need to look at what we are teaching the next generation. It may come
back to haunt us.
