Bonnie, that is just awful!  I'm glad you've resolved the problem, but sorry 
you had to be new equipment to do it.  We have had so many power surges lately 
that sometimes my surge protector nearly driven me nuts with its incessant 
beeps.  However, I'm grateful I've got one.
