I saw your picture and thought "Oh, that looks just like my Texas Star
hibiscus", so I'm thinking Daryl is probably right and if you poke
around you'll find it is not a vine. Worthy plant in my yard - nothing
bothers it, drought and heat don't faze it and it blooms when lots of
other plants are trailing off.

Jim,
It's a dead ringer for my Texas Star Hibiscus. I'm betting that it's not
on a vine, and that it's Hibiscus coccineus. Take a look at the leaf at
11 o'clock, more or less.
