Glad you are recovering. I know it's "painful" to be still and not do all the things you want to do. When my back was out so badly I thought I would go nuts from not being able to do a thing. But as everything else, it passed.
I got permission from my landlord (also a friend) to use part of the empty lot behind me for gardening. I'm so excited. It's pretty much full shade in this particular section, but I've gotten to where I love shade plants for their foliage and great contrasts. Can hardly wait to get started, but it is miserable here, so humid you could just drop, and promises only to get worse. It may have to be a September project as it needs clearing before anything can be done. Lots of weedy small mimosa trees and briars. I'll try and remember to take before and after pictures.

Yes- I'm thinking I'll be able to leave it until the weekend at least. I still have pruning and deadheading to do, so I'll give that priority (easier and looks better faster). I also, of course, have about a half-dozen projects I want to do..... I really want to replace the wood slats on the large gate next to my veggie garden with lattice. I have the lattice pieces, but not sure I should be sawing and nailing stuff yet. We'll see how I feel on Saturday. Also- it is supposed to be 100 plus degrees this weekend, so I may be inside instead. I haven't been as tolerant of temperature extremes as usual during this recovery either. But, each day is a bit better. I lasted until 3 pm at work yesterday- longest yet. I'm working at home today. Nose is healing, still uncomfortable in spots. Can't wait for all to be back to normal. I desperately need to weed my garden! Theresa Andrea Hodges wrote:Theresa, how are you feeling by the way? My dadhad that surgery doneseveral years ago and felt pretty bad for severalweeks. Of coursehe's a lot older than you are. Itwas quite interestingpruning job, since I still can't lean over. So,I sat on the frontwall and just pruned what was within reach. There is still tons morethat needs to be done, but will have to waituntil after my f/upappintment with the ENT doc on the 20th, at whichpoint I hope I'mcleared to do whatever I want. While pruning, Idid note that thelarge crinum that I bought at the CalHort sale inspring has a largebloom stalk on it, with one bud nearly open andat least a half dozenmore coming! They are white, but look like theedges of the petalswill have a pink tinge. I'm so psyched that itbloomed so soon- andthat I only paid $10 for it! Theresa P.S. Picked and ate my first tomato over theweekend. Yum!SueNY wrote:My plants seem very happy in their new spot.!No new yellow leavesanywhere! About a week ago I clipped off all Icould find andsprayed with daconil, then a day later I gave all the plantsa light feed of MG fortomatoes and veggies, half strength. Everythingis looking amazingnow. My one tomato plant that was getting purplishleaves is now nice andgreen. I do have one plant that looks somewhatridiculous-a bell pepper thatlost all but it's top leaves in one of the recent heavystorms. So it's got acrown of nice lush green leaves, some buds andflowers, and one pepper. The rest of the stem is bare but has tiny new shootsforming.Poor thing! I have lots of tomatoes andjalepenos and am juststarting to get some cayennes and habeneros. No cukes yet but they are blooming all over theplace and since theyare bush pickles I won't have to wait long-seedpacket said harvest 45days. Looking forward to making pickles! My lavenderis growing andgrowing, so is my chamomile. My dill doesn't seem to like theheat but it's hanging inthere. My little rose bush, which was bare caneswhen I planted itat the end of May is now 3 feet tall, nice and greenand has a rose on itabout to bloom. I also have 6 lovely little geraniumseedlings in my window. They'll surely brighten things up this winter. I alreadyhave 3 full grownones in various windows, where they bloom happily allyear long. Lord, whatwould life be without gardening?? LOL!
