I had a female cat once who had a favorite chair. Everytime anyone sat in it Felicity sprayed their feet. I can't tell you how horrified I was the first time she did that to a guest. After then I warned everybody against sitting their as Felicicty was about 14 years old at that point. Guess it's pretty easy to tell who has ruled the roost at my house since time out of mind.

I've had lots of cats, both "fixed" and not. Females, of course can be a problem if they're not spayed and you don't want kittens. I've done both - love kittens, but there comes a time when enough is enough. I've had many unaltered males with no problem, but one time I had male littermates. One had been to college with one of my sons, and when he returned, he and his brother fought a serious battle for dominance and territory. Sons and DH all were horrified at my suggestion that they should be altered, even though the battles were becoming a real problem. Then one day a son was lying on the bed reading when one of the cats jumped on the bed and claimed his territory by spraying my son right in the face. He came tearing out of his room yelling "Call the vet!" All our males have been altered since that event. My buddy neutered male cannot stand the young cats but just asks to go out; his sister sprays all over the place tho is finally getting used to them after over a year. --Barb, Grass Valley CA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Zemuly Sanders" <zemuly@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2007 11:02 AM Subject: Re: [CHAT] More catsI have had dozens of neutered male cats, and I've never had a problem with their spraying in the house. Spayed females have, however, been a probleml from time to time. The most affectionate cats have nearly always been the neutered males. zem ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cyndi Johnson" <gardencatalogs@yahoo.com> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2007 8:44 AM Subject: [CHAT] More catsI told you about the stray that was hanging around our front yard. My husband said it was a male. Now, I gotta tell ya, I have never to my knowledge seen an unaltered tomcat so while I didn't see anything obvious (ahem), I thought "okay". But then I was watching this cat and thinking how very big that belly was getting. Last night it was obvious that this is now a mama kitty. Hope we can find the kittens before they are too old to be socialized. As to how my husband decided this pregnant cat was male, maybe it was wishful thinking, because he won't adopt a male (our experience has been that even altered they will spray inside the house). Now, though, there's kittens somewhere.
