Don't they test these things first? Don't they ask people what they want and don't? Or do you suppose some hackers got hold of a beta of IE8 or Safari and worked on it to make a plan to wreak havoc on it as soon as it was distributed? Paranoia, conspiracy theories. Oh well. I really think MS likes to screw w their products just to force people to have to buy something new. I use their 2000 versions at home - mainly excel & publisher and they work fine. At work I have 2003 versions, but my supervisors have 2009 versions that look and work very differently. I suppose eventually I'll have those. Why don't they leave well enough alone?

It must be contagious. The twinkies at Apple just updated Safari to an awful mess so after fiddling with it for a week or so, i installed Firefox. I've used it before, a couple of years ago. It's sure better than what Safari has become. On Jul 6, 2009, at 10:32 AM, Johnson, Cyndi D Civ USAF AFMC 95 CS/ SCOSI wrote:I use Firefox almost exclusively at home. It doesn't have a lot of extraneous garbage to clutter it up. You can download various add-ons to do what you need. There's a newer version out, but I haven't tried it, so don't have an opinion yet. It's supposed to be faster. d ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Sunday, July 05, 2009 10:33 AM Subject: Re: [CHAT] grouse - new internet problemsWith a little right-clicking I found an option to reset IE to thefactory installed settings which I expected to be IE6. It warned against doing this because I'd lose all sorts of settings and it couldn't be reversed. However, it did say to use this option if your browser becomes inoperable. I hadn't been able to use it since yesterday through numerous restarts. The reset seems to have worked, although rather than going back toIE6, I still have IE8. But at least I am online. I have a couple of items selling on ebay today so I need access. Time to go looking for another browser. I noticed I have Netscape setup.exe, created Jan 2006 on my computer. Would that be a good one to use?Kitty neIN, Zone 5 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Sunday, July 05, 2009 8:55 AM Subject: Re: [CHAT] grouse - new internet problemsJim's suggestion looks imperative but impossible now. IE8 doesn't "respond". My internet connection is obviously fine as Iamgetting new emails. But when I try to get on the internet, I getnada.C+A+D gets me "this program is not responding". Does anyone know howI candump IE8 and go back to IE7, if it is still somewhere on my computer? If Ican't get on the internet, how could I get a new browser? This morning Win Explorer 8 jumped on board, and though it doesn't cause any real problems (so far) I really dislike the way it grays out most of the web address, making black only one word. But what's really ticking me this time is Google. Idid NOT upgrade to a new Google thing they kept pushing because I didn't know what would happen. I was just fine w/out it. But they still changed things on me. I googled "currency conversion calculator" and got: Results: 1-10 of about 9,050,000 Sounds good but they will only allow me to look at ONE - which is something google wants to add to my igoogle toolbar - a toolbar I don't have & don't want.. I could click on a right hand sidebar of sponsored links, which of course I don't want. I don't want to buy anything I just want the exchange rate for a euro. The largest portion of the search list page is totally BLANK. Obviously this can't be right. So I scroll and scroll until I'm past the sponsored links and THERE they are. I cannot immediately see my results until I first look at what goolge and it's sponsors have to offer. Why does everyone want to slap another toolbar on my screen? I currently have NINE available of which I allow 4 to show and that takes up 20% of my screen as it is with small icons.
