No, I don't really connect with kids. Besides, they have more volunteers than they need for the Youth class. The guy that builds the kids' beds told me he asked some of them to give him a hand and they said no, they only want to teach. I guess getting dirty wasn't what they had in mind.

My experience was that most MGs were great to work with and be around. The latin names don't make me think of snooty. It is other behavior. I understand about closing down your nursery; you may feel differently once you've had some time off. I have had three years in a row of medical problems that have cut out my ability to volunteer for MG work. :( missing those I worked with. Right now, I still have to get help to keep my gardens under control so am not able to do much but give advice and plants to neighbors. Maybe some day, I'll be back into it. Have you thought about working with Junior Master Gardeners? I took my MG training in1999 and started in immediately before the course was done on several projects. So it's been 10 yrs. I've met some lovely people as well as some who like to stir up trouble. I might seem a littlesnooty because I use Latin names and because I've always had a lot I neededto get done and I have little patience for someone who volunteers and then walks around gabbing for 4 hours doing absolutely nothing. I was actually, secretly glad to close down the nursery. I was tired of begging, cajoling people to work. I will miss it, but not all the hassles. So I suppose I could do something else there, contribute in some other way - But I just no longer feel like it. I'm tired of manipulators, backstabbers,two-faced truth-benders, lazy slobs, whiners, and those people who "volunteer", but think it's just a social thing. And I'd like to get something done at home for a change.I'll probably find a way to turn in minimum hours to keep my certification, but otherwise, I'm taking a breather. Have you checked out the garden clubs recently? Since so manyGC members are working these days, there's much less of that old dowager/snooty stuff. A lot of our MGs are also involved in clubs, and they work their butts off in both places. d----- Original Message ----- From: "BONNIE_HOLMES" <bonnie_holmes@comcast.net>To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Thursday, July 29, 2010 10:11 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] Rather sadProbably would but the garden "clubs" in this area tend to be rather "snooty" so I have never be attracted to joining them. I've volunteered a lot with Master's Gardens but never with clubs.
