Two for the price of one!
Cathy

Mint Julep
make a simple syrup -
combine 1c sugar in 2/3c water in pot - cook on medium low heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved, then simmer for one minute without stirring. Cool.
then
pour 1T+ syrup (you will have to experiment, depending how sweet you like your julep) in a tall glass. add 6+ mint leaves (again, taste is an issue) and bruise them with a spoon in the syrup. Fill the glass with shaved or finely crushed ice, packed down, and pour 4-6 ounces bourbon whiskey (another taste issue) over it. garnish with a sprig of mint, and top with a splash of brandy (optional). Sip on porch/deck overlooking garden.

Mint Punch
syrup:
2c sugar
1.5 c fresh mint leaves
2c water
Boil water, add sugar and mint. Let sit for 20 minutes. Strain leaves from syrup,
fruit juice mixture:
3/4c lemon juice
1 - 6oz can frozen OJ
1 - 6oz can frozen pineapple juice
1 - 6oz can frozen limeade
1 - 12oz can apricot nectar
2 qts gingerale or champagne or rum
Use all juices undiluted. Mix all juices and add syrup mixture. Pour over ice in a punch bowl. (This base can be frozen for future use. If you do, take out and thaw before continuing.) Just before serving add chilled gingerale, champagne, or rum (rum should be added to taste, as it has more alcohol than champagne.
