yes- mine come back and keep growing.  Even in zone 6 they usually did-
occassionally in a harsh winter a few branches would not, but most did.  In
zone 6 I'd prune to about 24 inches from the ground.  What zone are you in
again?

Are you saying that yours come back? Mine are dead to the ground
usually... Crack able sticks type thing. All my new shoots come from
underground... kind of like a hardy hibiscus... this is the first time
anything showed up elsewhere. I prune them down to about 6 inches from
the ground... or wherever they crack off at :)
