Re: weekend gardening
Well, with a little googling, I think the problem is those old common names.
The site reads:
Goumi (Eleagnus multiflora) is a tasty berry related to the native autumn
olive.
It does not say:
Goumi (Eleagnus multiflora) is a tasty berry related to the autumn olive.
First, it is spelled Elaeagnus multiflora and another common name for it is
Cherry Silverberry (easier than Goumi, but not as much fun). So then I
checked for what an ordinary Silverberry would be and I found:
Elaeagnus commutata, which is indeed native to North America.
So I think the Twin Oaks people are correct; it would have just been better
to use a more commonly used common name to get their point across as in:
Goumi / Cherry Silverberry (Eleagnus multiflora) is a tasty berry related to
the native Silverberry.
