The orignal redbud tree on our property was one of the largest I've ever
seen...taller than our 1 1/2 story house with a huge canopy...I suspect
it was pretty old. It was destroyed a few months after we moved in
during a wild straight line wind storm. We have never planted another
one but the last dying breath of that tree must have been spent in
procreating itself as ever since we have had seedlings everywhere! We
have left a few of them grow where they sprouted, the largest and oldest
of which is now 3 years old and this year it bloomed for the first time
but also produced many hundreds of seed pods, which I had not known
redbuds to do. Hmmm...
