Re: Soil pH
Sometimes. Several years ago when I was taking hort classes, I noticed how
much better plants looked after rain compared to tap water. I began to
wonder about the pH of our tap water since this part of the country is quite
alkaline. So I checked with the city and they told me they try to keep it
at 9, but it does get away from them., so up to 10 is a possibility. I
posed the question in my MG classes and never got a definitive answer about
the affect, but the Hort Ed agreed that it would at least have some affect,
except that we get a fair amount of rain here that probably counteracts it.
More recently, I did come across a study on it which proved my theory, but I
don't know where I filed it right now. One can alter the 9 or 10 pH by
adding vinegar to a hose end sprayer. Again, just now I don't recall the
ratio.
