Re: Aliens in the Backyard

The author is John Leland, and it is published by Univ of SC Press. Leland's previous book is 'Porcher's Creek: Lives between the Tides,' a natural history of a SC waterway. He currently teaches English at VMI. You would love this book, I'm sure. Did you know that both Bermuda grass and Johnson grass came from Africa as bedding in the slave trade? or that Johnson grass and sorghum are so closely related that they can cross breed? I doubt everybody is as interested in such esoterica, but I am just fascinated by it.

I am reading 'Aliens in the Backyard' right now. It is a wonderful
counterbalance to the government's plant police along with being one of the
most informative and entertaining gardening books I have ever read. Has
anybody else read it?
