You could just let it seed itself; redbuds are notorious for this. I'm always pulling out redbud seedlings. Flat is normal. If you do try growing from seed, you most likely will not have the weeping trait.

Subject: [CHAT] weeping redbud tree
Last year I bought a weeping redbud tree. I just noticed I have 3 seed pods on it, but they seem kinda flat so not sure if they really contain viable seeds. Anyone ever try to grow this from a seed? I also noticed that ALL of my trees seem to be seeding this season. Even that ugly tree they planted curbside has these green pods on it.... find it interesting, must be the stress of the weather around here.
