Gene,
I looked it up and it is Prunus laurocerasus. However, to verify the name I went to the RHS database and, it is correct but they had 79 cultivar listings, though the listing said Cherry Laurel or Versailles Laurel. So I scrolled to the S cultivars and found 4:
laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis'
laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis Compacta'
laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis Holland'
laurocerasus 'Schipkaensis Macrophylla'
Can't tell which one you might have seen.

Don't know how close this comes....
Saw a neat shrub with long narrow leaves of deep dark green. Very neat
and tidy , although a bit stiff and a bit artificial in appearance. Told it
was evergreen in this area and the name was *something like* Schipp laurel.
Can not find anything in my Dirrs. Anyone??? Can you tell me the botanical
and/or correct spelling for this shrub. Told it will eventually get about 6
feet in height.
Thank you.
