Donna, it would be different if it could be fixed at a reasonable expense. The only way to make this right is to replace the $1000 patio door, the oak entry door, and $250 worth of woodwork.
I had told him specifically about the stain color, but when it came to the tile grout color I told him to pick it. Instead he brought me color samples on the grout and thought I had left it to him todo what he felt right on the stain. So he says, but he knows that's not true. The stain color is written in an email.

well now, you both are much better folks than I would be. If I contracted for a certain color etc, and it wasn't close, I wasn't asked if it would be ok, I would be fighting this and they would be replacing it. I am way to hyper when it comes to contracts. New patio door, garage entry door, all new woodwork including the 2 step treads, and ceramic tile. I did the painting myself, but got a contractor for the big stuff. The patio door is a beautiful peachtreefiberglass wood-look door that could be stained just like the woodwork. Itold him I wanted golden oak like the kitchen, or as close to that as possible. I came home tonight to RED MAPLE. I nearly cried. Minwax doesn't make golden oak in GEL stain which is needed for the fiberglass. He doesn't like other brands so he chose the red maple because that's what they're putting in all the new homes and it looks so rich and beautiful. But it is RED. That's the color they used in the 60s when this place was builtand I've lived with it for over 20 yrs. I wanted the more neutral shade Iused when I had my kitchen done a few years ago. It can't be fixed w/out making it very dark and even then the fiberglass wouldn't match the rest so I just have to live with it. I know he meant well, but...
