Yeah, I thought of that I'd paint it with the darker green I used on the ceiling 3 beams (cathedral ceiling). But the one of the reasons I spent the extra for this door was that it had the wood-grained fiberglass. I wanted natural woodwork throughout, or the closest I could come to it.
He did do a beautiful job and it really looks nice, just not what I wanted. He's such a nice guy, spent extra, out of pocket, to get my tile here from TX expedited so I could have all this done b4 the 4th for me to have my niece over for her bday. When I called him when I got home tonight about the red, he skipped dinner and came over here to see if he could do anything.
It'll be ok, I'll get used to it. It really does look nice. I just wish he'd asked.

I'm sorry that happend, Kitty. I know how disappointed you must be. Would it be possible to paint the door?zem----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net>To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2007 7:02 PM Subject: [CHAT] woe woe woe my boatbefore the fence issue arose I had contracted to have my family room redone. New patio door, garage entry door, all new woodwork including the 2 step treads, and ceramic tile. I did the painting myself, but got a contractor for the big stuff. The patio door is a beautiful peachtree fiberglass wood-look door that could be stained just like the woodwork. I told him I wanted golden oak like the kitchen, or as close to that as possible.I came home tonight to RED MAPLE. I nearly cried. Minwax doesn't make golden oak in GEL stain which is needed for the fiberglass. He doesn't like other brands so he chose the red maple because that's what they're putting in all the new homes and it looks so rich and beautiful. But it is RED. That's the color they used in the 60s when this place was built and I've lived with it for over 20 yrs. I wanted the more neutral shade I used when I had my kitchen done a few years ago.It can't be fixed w/out making it very dark and even then the fiberglass wouldn't match the rest so I just have to live with it. I know he meant well, but...Kitty neIN, Zone 5 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
